Zhang Huan

Zhang Huan presents a series of large-scale ash paintings for his second exhibition at White Cube. Based on photographs taken from old magazines, family albums and the propagandist publications distributed by the government during the Cultural Revolution, their subject matter ranges from depictions of political leaders, important intellectual and religious figures to anonymous family portraits and a panoramic seascape.
