World renowned marine photographer Philip Plisson presents his debut UK exhibition entitled ‘The Sea’. Plisson holds the distinguished title of Official Painter of the Navy (France) and has travelled around the world for over 30 years to capture the spirit of the sea in thousands of images.

Plisson’s spectacular photographs are diverse; from a solitary surfer to the opulence and grandeur of Queen Mary 2, he shares the magic of the sea in all its moods. Not only does Plisson have the ability to photograph romantic seascapes, but his sailor’s eye has recorded the drama of the J-class races, the sedate tall ships, the intrepid dragon boats and many other sailing craft.

Plisson’s award-winning photographs can be found in households and businesses around the world, with one photograph ‘Avis de coup de vent sur les poulains’ gracing 2 million homes. Plisson explains how his love and talent for photography of the sea started, “In the summer of 1956, inspired by the masters of marine photography, the Beken family of Cowes, I took my first shots of yachts aboard my punt on the La Trinité River in France. Back then I didn’t know that one of my dreams would come true - a lifetime of combining my two passions, sailing and photography, just like the Beken family did for more than 100 years.”
At the exhibition over 60 iconic images will be showcased, taking visitors on a globe hopping journey to share Plisson’s life-long passion for the sea. Not only will there be images for every taste, but prints will be available to purchase as fine art limited editions as well as open edition prints. Plisson’s work is captivating and visitors have the opportunity to take a memento home, be it a print, a book or one of the 60 fine art greeting cards.

With countless exhibitions and over 42 books to his name, Plisson is particularly excited about his first UK exhibition, “I really believe that the British are the most maritime people of the world and to exhibit at the.gallery@oxo on the bank of the River Thames in the heart of London
