In the natural world, drugs can be obtained from a wide variety of sources. The simple leech secretes a substance called hirudin, an anticoagulant to keep blood flowing from a wound while it feeds. In this live demonstration of leeching, discover the beliefs behind the ancient practice of phlebotomy – and why leeches are still in use in medicine today!
