People's Republic of Southwark is, throughout 2014, running a series of fortnightly events, to create real - rather than just virtual - spaces for learning from each other.
The events will take place every other Wednesday and will be a mix of reading group meetings, film screenings and discussions on a range of topics.
The first event is a screening of part 1 of the Artist Taxi Driver's film 'This is not a recession, it's a robbery', in which he talks to a variety of people, from MPs to radical activists, about current issues.
Liliana Dmitrovic, of People's Republic of Southwark, said, "Southwark Commons events will hopefully provide an opportunity to go beyond the existing dysfunctional systems around us.
"Together. 'Commons' is all about sharing, learning from each other and exploring alternatives. Corporations are killing the planet, politicians are selling off pretty much everything we rely on to survive, from hospitals, fire stations, schools, benefit system, while those of us still standing are being thrown out of our homes to make room for a 'better class of people'.
"Alternatives are there and we hope our events will help us in Southwark get there."
