A talk exploring the history of efforts to combat ill health, poverty and disease across the capital and closer to home.

The medical officer of health system safeguarded Londoners' health for over 100 years. Now, thanks to the Wellcome Library, their reports from the frontlines of the capital's battle against ill-health, are available on-line. Ross MacFarlane, Engagement Officer at the Wellcome, will discuss the history of Southwark's medical officers of health while Patricia Dark will link modern attempts to mobilse local populations with historic efforts to combat poverty and disease in Bermondsey and Peckham.
