Architecture on the Thames Central Christmas Special

This event is in the past. This is an archive page for reference.

Join Open-City for this festive journey down the River Thames as the sun sets and creative lighting dramatically re-enforces the night time presence of famous landmarks that contribute to making London such a vibrant and dynamic city.

The tour guide will be architect Benedict O’Looney.

Illuminated along the Thames embankments are Somerset House (Sir William Chambers/Dixon Jones), Tate Modern (Sir Giles Gilbert Scott/Herzog & de Meuron), Oxo Tower, Royal Festival Hall (Allies and Morrison refurbishment), Foster’s City Hall, Riverbank House (David Walker Architects) and The Shard to name a few. Departing from Festival Pier, the tour will first go upstream taking in Battersea Power Station and Foster's Studio, before heading downstream past The Shard and under Tower Bridge (where a new illumination to mark the 2012 Olympics replaced the first significant illumination of 25 years), towards Docklands before ending back at Festival Pier.

Pay bar with mulled wine and other drinks available for purchase on board.
