Musicke in the Ayre

From dusk to dawn

Lutenist Din Ghani will accompany soprano Alysha Paterson in a programme of lute songs that paint a picture of what goes on between sunset and sunrise, in the minds of poets and composers of the 16th and 17th centuries from across Europe.

This music covers a 150-year span, from the Spain of Philip II, through the reign of Elizabeth, all the way to Restoration England and the court of Charles II.

Alysha and Din perform under the banner of Musicke in the Ayre, an evolving circle of singers and instrumentalists, gathered together by Din, who share a love of the lute song or ayre and its variants from across Europe. As a group, they have given many concerts across the UK, as well as in France and Spain.
