Water Lambeth

A new exhibition exploring Lambeth's relationship with the rivers that have defined its landscape.

The Thames between Broad Wall and Nine Elms makes Lambeth's northern boundary, while its 'other' river, the Effra, flows through the borough from Norwood to Vauxhall like a secret watery spine.

Taking these rivers as its frame, the Water Lambeth exhibition juxtaposes paintings, photographs, museum objects and maps from Lambeth Archives alongside the work of contemporary photographers to document the vanished medieval village of 'Water Lambeth', the riverside Doulton pottery works that closed in the 1950s and the hidden course of the Effra.

As part of the Water Lambeth exhibition Morley Gallery will also be hosting a series of exhibition tours with curator Jon Newman.
