Antony Gormley

The artist will configure the gallery into 15 discrete chambers to create a labyrinth containing some 24 works of differing size and material.

Works include Cave, a 12-metre long tunnel offering a journey into darkness and the unknown; Cotch, a brooding, abstract body comprised of 22 concrete blocks; and at the core of the exhibition, an installation spread over 100 square metres titled Sleeping Field. Viewed from four thresholds, this work suggests a condensed urban landscape of high and low-rise buildings, but upon closer inspection the forms resolve into 100s of individual, cast iron bodies at rest. A singular, continuous cast iron line indicates the space of one room in snaking, 90 degree turns. In describing this work, Gormley states, "it is both object and space, inviting one to pause and consider our dependency on the 'second' body, the body of architecture".

Throughout the exhibition visitors will be faced with a choice of passage through differently sized, uniquely lit spaces where each room challenges or qualifies the experience of the last. The works are catalysts for various subjective states and engage the visitor in a journey through time, space and reflexivity.
