A romantic farce unfolding during a family summer holiday in the Mediterranean. Part of Roxy's month-long Lesbian and Gay season.
Described by its creators Olivier Ducastel and Jacques Martineau as a "modern fairy tale", Cockles and Muscles draws on a number of influences, including the seaside romances of Eric Rohmer and the enchanting musicals of Jacques Demy. There are also echoes of the sexual playfulness that distinguished Francois Ozon's 8 Women and his short 'A Summer's Dress', while the plotting recalls the mechanics, misunderstandings and restricted setting of a Feydeau theatrical farce.
