Guy Attewell, PhD, Lecturer, Wellcome Trust Centre for the History of Medicine at UC.

Yunani tibb has been variously described as Greek, Islamic, Arab and Hindustani (Indian) traditional medicine, yet on their own none of these labels do justice to its complexity.

This illustrated lecture examines aspects of its entangled history as well as contemporary issues facing practitioners of yunani tibb in India in order to show how political, social and economic forces have shaped the yunani profession as we see it today.

Examples of practice, such as pulse and urine diagnosis, and the production of remedies will be presented in order to illustrate change and dynamism in this cosmopolitan healing tradition.
