Lecture by Bethan Marshall. Shakespeare's place in the school and university curriculum is regularly called into question. Today, however, Shakespeare's plays and poems are taught more widely than ever before. This talk will trace Shakespeare's first appearance in the school curriculum to his place in the classroom today. Have the motives for teaching Shakespeare changed? Are Shakespeare tests here to stay?
