170 mins, Comedy, Black & White (Unclassified)
Set in the mean streets around Waterloo Station, it is a popular drama giving a good view of the way the war left 'folks battling with themselves' at home. A tale told in flashback with Alastair Sim as Dr. Montgomery. Jim Colter (John Mills) has joined the services leaving his wife Tillie (Joy Shelton) in the hands of his mother (Beatrice Varley). When Tillie who is lonely falls for the local spiv Ted Purvis (Stewart Granger), Jim goes AWOL and heads home to settle matters. The heart of the film lies in the journey through the local pleasure domes – the dance halls, pubs, amusement arcades and hairdressing parlours.
