The Alternative Village Fete

This event is in the past. This is an archive page for reference.

The traditional village green is reimagined for the modern age.

The world of Morris Dancing, cake stalls and vegetable competitions with an eccentric urban twist.

With stalls, music, dancing and a special visit from some rabbits, chickens, ducks and ferrets from Vauxhall City Farm.

Lower Marsh-based I Knit London (IKL) will be launching their latest project at the fete.

The Great British Sheep is a large wire frame sheep sculpture, specially made by artist Yvonne Stone, which will be transformed by knitters creating a unique handknit 'fleece' made entirely from only 100% British wool - over 60 breeds all blended together to make this woolly artwork.

Anyone can be involved - IKL is asking new knitters, old knitters, crocheters and crafters to contribute their own piece to the fleece. All wool will be available on the day(s) and knitters are welcome to turn up and knit squares or shapes of all sizes, crochet ringlets etc which will be attached to our framework.

They'll also be showing beginners the basics, teaching 'loopy stitch' and more to cover the sheep in woolly goodness.

There will also be demonstrations of spinning and we welcome anyone with drop-spindles or small portable wheels along to each event to take part and get hands-on the vast variety of British wool on offer.
