Homage to Francis Bacon: Triptych I
Homage to Francis Bacon: Triptych I

2008's most extraordinary art experiment, is to form the basis of Life In Space at County Hall Gallery.

The centrepiece of the exhibition will be Nasser Azam's two new works, Homage to Francis Bacon: Triptych I and Homage to Francis Bacon: Triptych II, which were created in zero gravity conditions in the skies above Moscow in July 2008.

The Homage to Francis Bacon triptychs each measure 160 x 120 cm, and are the first paintings ever to be completed in zero gravity. Azam completed the triptychs on board the flight by attacking the canvas panels with oil pastels as he floated in conditions of total weightlessness.

Homage to Francis Bacon I returns to London for this show after being sold at Phillips de Pury, New York, on 14 November 2008.
