A recent body of paintings entitled 'The Janus Series'

The first UK showing of the Janus Series revealing a shift of emphasis in Beattie's pictorial parameters.

The paintings remain epic in scale and uncompromising in their use of simple means and subtly restrained colour but they are poised now in imagery which suggests notional landscape vistas or distant horizon lines.

From this almost generic arrangement of space and place, achieved with a formal dexterity that allows a few lines to speak of unchartered territories and inevitable journeys, Beattie has made perhaps the strongest and most eloquent work of his career.
