Penny Sparke on the modern interior

This event is in the past. This is an archive page for reference.

The transition from 19th to 20th Century style is not as simple and smooth as often perceived.

Penny Sparke, Pro Vice-Chancellor (Arts) and Professor of Design History at Kingston University, will launch this new series of Design Museum design history lectures with an examination of the development of the modern interior.

Drawing from the work of designers such as Marcel Breuer, Frank Lloyd Wright, Charles and Ray Eames, and Mies van der Rohe, the lecture will address the modern interior as both an idealised concept and as a realised form represented in through a number of different aesthetic language.
