A guided walk with John Constable exploring the secret history of Bankside, south of the river, which for centuries lay outside the law of The City.

Here Shakespearean theatre was born in Southwark's red light district, where brothels or 'stews' were licensed by the church.

The walk is led by local writer and performer John Constable and features in his book Secret Bankside - Walks In The Outlaw Borough.

A new production of The Southwark Mysteries, Constable's contemporary mystery play inspired by the history of this area, is planned for 2010.
