English poetry from the 1590s has been chosen to complement Romeo and Juliet and will be performed by Globe actors. Marlowe's description of the meeting of Hero and Leander and Shakespeare's dramatisation of the meeting of Romeo and Juliet will be followed by a reading of Shakespeare's The Passionate Pilgrim (1599) and poems from the collection England's Parnassus (1600).
Globe Education began its series of staged readings of plays in 1994. Since then audiences have been able to see and hear over 150 plays written between 1567 and 1642 by Shakespeare's contemporaries. These 'performances with scripts' and dramatic readings are staged by professional actors and directors.
