Read Not Dead

Sadly, we have no record of what Thomas Lodge thought of Shakespeare's dramatization of his novella. He was the only writer who could have seen his work adapted for the stage by Shakespeare. In his letter to the Gentleman Readers, Lodge wrote "If you like it, so".

Those who came to the reading that complemented the 1998 Globe production of As You Like It, did like it, so the Globe has decided to play it again.

Globe Education began its series of staged readings of plays in 1994. Since then audiences have been able to see and hear over 150 plays written between 1567 and 1642 by Shakespeare's contemporaries. These 'performances with scripts' and dramatic readings are staged by professional actors and directors.
