Learn about Medieval Southwark: The palaces, monasteries and inns of "the Borough".

Better Bankside is working in partnership with Birkbeck, University of London to hold a number of early evening archaeological and historical walks and discussions focusing on the history and development of Bankside, from its roots as a Roman bridge head settlement onwards through to its pivotal role in the commercial and industrial life of London in the late 19th and early 20th centuries.

Each session consists of a walk followed by a brief illustrated presentation in the Bankside Community Space together with an examination of relevant archaeological finds. A guide to further reading and study will also be available.
