A beautiful allegory written one hundred years ago by the Bulgarian playwright P Todorov which raises incredibly modern issues about race and the treatment of women and outsiders by society, as well as environmental issues of the rape of nature for the advancement of "civilisation", the loss of connection to nature.
This is a modern and lavish love story, packed with bucolic idiom and lyrical phrasing.
