The Genius of Christopher Marlowe at The Rose Playhouse
Listen!

This 35-minute film is shown on a cinematic screen at the Rose to enable visitors to have an idea how Marlowe's plays might have been seen and heard by audiences in the place they were first performed.

The film includes a series of extracts from all of Marlowe plays with a cast including Sir Ian McKellen, Alan Rickman, Henry Goodman, Frances Barber, Shaun Parkes, Joseph Fiennes, Charlie Cox, Kevin McNally, Clive Francis, John Shrapnel, Rebecca Night, Anthony Sher and Harriet Walter, together with the voices of Dame Judi Dench and Derek Jacobi.

This film was made with the goodwill of the actors, many of whom had already been prominent in 1989 in helping to save the site from the bulldozers, the creative team and suppliers to celebrate the genius of Christopher Marlowe.

In this spirit the actors of this show have given their services to underline the importance of the Rose Theatre in the evolution of theatre in England and the world. The key creative team and our supporters have given their services in the same spirit.

Conceived by William Dudley, devised by Robert Pennant Jones and directed by Paul Marcus.
