West End Theatre in the 19th Century

This event is in the past. This is an archive page for reference.

This exhibition of rare programmes, playbills, prints, portraits and artefacts, celebrates 19th-century London theatre and showcases original material from the Westminster Libraries and Archives Theatre Collection.

It provides a fascinating insight into the colourful world of Victorian theatre, from its star performers to marvels of theatre design.

This is a unique opportunity to see photographs and hand-coloured prints of actors from the era, theatre fans and other unusual artefacts.

The exhibition coincides with the publication of Robert Tanitch’s new book, The London Stage in the Nineteenth Century.
