A unique Textile Foundation Course is celebrating its tenth anniversary by bringing former students together for a reunion.

The event will coincide with the Textile Foundation annual end of year exhibition, the climax of the year long course.

The Textile Foundation Course, the only one of its kind in the UK, first ran in 2000 and is highly regarded by universities in London as an excellent foundation course.

Co-ordinated by Alex Mayer, the Textiles Foundation is a one-year course starting from September which runs two days a week. The course offers a combination of drawing, contextual studies skills, and a mix of textile techniques and practice. Students work on their own projects, which results in a varied show. Special attention is given to current textile practice.

Textile Foundation Graduate Tamar Balakjian, who has since completed a Textile Degree at Buckinghamshire University, says: "During my time at Morley I discovered a great passion for textiles.

"Doing the Textiles Foundation course with Alex Mayer enabled me to embrace my newfound love of knitting. It also helped me to get a place on a degree course, and ultimately to have the confidence to turn a hobby into a career. I really do think Morley is one of the greatest places in London!"
