Southside is a radio station, magazine, media and arts project, based in Waterloo. Through facilitating informal learning and training programmes, the project engages local young people in positive, constructive and creative activities which aid personal development and empower participants to make a positive contribution in their community. The mission statement of the project was written by the young people: "Here at Southside we aim to inspire hope, motivate ambition, challenge stereotypes and embrace diversity. We are about presenting young people like us in a positive light. Giving quiet people voices."

One word: Life is the conception of Southside's photographers. The exhibition explores identity, diversity and community through local faces. It consists of portrait photographs inspired by the subjects' one word description of themselves.
