Hi all -

About a week ago the cold water pipes in my flat (the Circle, North Side) started making horrible noises when we ran water. It sounds much like a moaning whale caught in the plumbing system when we run cold water - toilet, dishwasher, washing machine, cold water taps.

Has anyone else noticed this happen in their flat? We thought it might be related to some drainage works outside, but that was a week ago. A plumber has been called (for next Thursday!!!) but perhaps there might be an earlier solution...

Hi Chris

I had a similar problem in Boss House. The pipes embedded in my wall started banging and making a right old racket.

Apparently, Thames Water reduced the mains pressure while they were carrying out repairs elsewhere. Once they increased the pressure the noise stopped. Went on for about 2 weeks.

In the first instance, complain to your managing agency and ask them to check if Thames Water have lowered the water pressure around the Circle area.

Thanks BSB - that's interesting and quite helpful. I'll follow that lead.
