The planning documents say that no cables are required - the boxes are solar powered and use mobile phone technology.

I notice that Lambeth have refused an application for 'prior approval' for one of these phone boxes at the junction of Lambeth Road and Kennington Road.

Both of the telephone boxes on Borough High Street have been out of order for 6 months now. I reported both to their operators but one is still faulty and the other without a handset and full of rubble.

Given there is are two BT phone boxes close by for the rare occasion someone did need to use a public phone, this highlights that they are not needed and nothing but advertising hoardings in disguise.

Is there any requirement for the operator to keep them in working order? Or have Southwark Council been duped?
