Shock News - Boot & Flogger

Was in the the B&F the other day and - horrors – it has been sold!!

The new owners are a wine bar chain, I think the chain that the original owner started in the first place. They have already started to make changes. B&F sells beer now [ noooo! ] and the opening hours are being extended, already to 9pm on Thu/Fri, and there is even the possibility of a Saturday opening [ gasp!! ]

Other than that all is the same (for now), but sadly I feel as if we have lost a real piece of local treasure now.

How horrendous. I can't believe it. I may have to move house.

Great: summer evening nosh in the courtyard makes an appealing prospect. Long thought 7 was an odd time to close.

I'm a bit suprised as well, I always thought it was a conversion that was keeping the pub frontage. I didn't know it was an actual pub.

If my memory is right, until a few years ago, when they changed the law, it was one of the few pubs which did not need a licence because the landlord was a master vintner. Could be rubbish, but a nice story.

And I never understood how it survived on lunchtimes only. Although I did my best.

I *know*, it was really quite a shock. I mean yes people are right - it will be handy having it open later (i.e past 7ish), or even at the weekend. But that just makes it like everywhere else (yawn). Esp. now that they serve beer, really? What was wrong with just sherry and wine (oh, and fizz by the tankard :)) For years it has been a fun place to start off a great evening.
