I'm looking for a venue in Southwark for my 30th next summer. I've emailed imbibe asking for a quote but any other recommendations gratefully received.

Ideally my budget is £500 including DJ and buffet. Exclusive hire preferable or private function room as Iím planning fancy dress and access to outdoor area and 1am/2am am licence. Ill have around 60 guests.

Many thanks

Steph w - you could try Shortwave Cinema, in Bermondsey Square. They have all kinds of events there, both personal and corporate - and a 'built-in' outside area. Give Rob a call or pop in and see him.

Hi Steph
We used Borough Bar a couple of years ago for our tenth wedding anniversary. It worked really well for us- not sure about the outdoor area though....

I know that Southwark Playhouse does occasional events - it is a great location under the arches (for the moment) with an outside bit at the side.

Would you like to go with me?

Doggetts has a room at the top, with a terrace overlooking the river, that they only hire out for functions - it's not part of the normal pub. It might not be as chic a location as some, but the view over the river and the city is fantastic and would be ideal in summer.

I recommend the Grand Union in Kennington Road (corner of Brook Drive) near the Imperial War Museum). My wife has used it twice for private, late-licence birthday parties. 020 7582 6685.
