The photo doesn't really do it justice, but <sarcasm>I'm glad to see the architects took the effects of their design on the local community into consideration</sarcasm>
At risk of being provocative I think the Shard looks fantastic in the photos! Whilst out and about the other day the Shard looked wonderful bouncing the light back onto the streets of SE1
I suspect I would feel differently if it intruded onto my living space in an unwanted and inescapable fashion.
A suggested short term solution might be to look away from the shard or to part close curtains/blinds until the sun moves around? A longer term solution would obviously be for the shard to be demolished or encased in a non-reflective material.
I wonder, given the angles it's at, if it would affect aircraft. Last thing you need to see as a pilot is something like that. Maybe the last thing you'd see ever!
When the sun hits the Shard it does reflect with a brightness which could definitely damage the eye if one looked at it too long. I have to close the blinds when it shines directly into my flat.
