Agree that Heathrow is a nightmare, but getting to Stanstead is no easier, getting to Luton SHOULD be easy but the train+bus thingy when you arrive is also cumbersome, specially if you have a suitcase. Gatwick is also a long haul and expensive. City Airport is super(for us in SE1)...but not enough flights land and take off.

I'd disagree that Gatwick is expensive or a long trip from SE1. The First CapitalConnect trains from London Bridge (or from Elephant, one stop up to Blackfriars then over the bridge to the other platform) aren't too pricey in my experience. Once you leave London Bridge a lot of the trains don't stop until East Croydon. If you're lucky you can also catch one of about 2 trains a day direct from Elephant & Castle!

Agreed, Gatwick is the quickest to get to by public transport, but an easier route to Heathrow than the Piccadilly line would be great for SE London dwellers.

Agre LGW is by far the easiest to reach, quick and not too expensive. Just hate getting to LHR, so slow, unless you can afford the Paddington Express. Luton journey dire, and Stansted expensive but easy from Liverpool Street.

This proposed link sounds like a perfect solution - where is the e petition to support it?

This would be brilliant. I work in SE1, live further south, a decent interchange at Clapham for getting to Heathrow would be good news for most everyone south of the river (apart from a few petrolheads in Egham apparently).

Supposedly the Crossrail works will effectively tie Liverpool St together with Moorgate (long overdue if you ask me, it's only 150 yards or so at street level), if they could see a way to putting in some airport style travelators (as they do with the larger stations on the continent) that'd make Stanstead a whole lot easier from London Bridge & points south.

When they eventually finish "Thameslink 2000" (supposedly in 2018 now) even Luton won't be too bad.

What Petrolheads?
The 8000 or so people in Egham Hythe can't even WALK to a supermarket without going over a level crossing, and without foot-bridges, they sometimes stand by the gates for up to 10 minutes already. People living 15 minutes walk from work have to allow 25 minutes to avoid being regularly late.
If Airtrack can't afford to include a bridge or tunnel for Egham you can be sure they will cut corners everywhere else.
