I only just moved into SE1 and the more I read these stories I'm concerned I should have stayed where I was!!

I think that can be one of the negative aspects of sites such as this(and 24 hour rolling news). If it wasn't for this forum then I would be completely unaware of the recent spate of muggings, in fact any muggings in the past. It can be a good thing if it makes you more aware but bad if it gives you a greater sense of risk.

Did you have a similar active forum where you used to live? If not then maybe you were just unaware of problems in that area. I suspect that se1 is not particularly worse or better than many other parts of London. It's just that this forum makes us more aware of both good and bad things in SE1.

I agreed with Jac. Also, these incidents are more well reported here than other areas and that this site has a lot of active members.

WildeOne, being a victim of a crime in Borough High Street, the police should have looked into the CCTV. How will the police cope with the coming pick pockets and potentially terrorists when they can't even deal with the mugging at the moment.

to be honest not much I dont think, plus they keep cutting the police force down as well like other areas. they have these community wardens but they are not allowed to do much so whats the point of them, I dont think they can even make an arrest can they. even if they tried to hold them until police came no doubt the criminal would either get away or accuse the warden or hurting them or something. I know what I would like to do with them and no doubt others feel the same on here. Its not fair that people have to be scared out of their lives and not be able to go out when they want where they want for fear or being mugged or raped etc. it seems these criminals have the monopoly now over everybody, they dont want to work like others but just steal and sell on stuff instead to make a quick buck. plus also to consider those who store their families names and address on phones to, be careful, thief could find out where they live and break in and rob them one night to.
