I heard a rumour that the Design museum build has got planning permission to increase the height by 2 storeys. Does anyone know if this is true or just a rumour ?

I thought that the Design Museum was moving to Kensington High Street (Commonwealth Institute building) so why would Conran do anything to the current building?

The building was put up for sale last October:

I've not heard anything about the current status of the sale process.

I'm certainly not aware of any planning permission (or application) to alter/extend the building.

Why, what have you heard? Is he doing something with it?

Sarah, you're partly right. The Clove Building, which is behind the Design Museum and appears to be attached to it but actually has a different owner, has applied to add an extra two storeys. Permission has not been granted yet, as the consultation period is still open. Residents in Cinnamon Wharf and Coriander Court have been frantically organising to oppose the move, supported by individual councillors, and we are confident we will win.
James, I was planning to send you full details of this concerted local opposition later today, in the hope you could give us news coverage. Sarah's opening of this thread makes it clear there is considerable wider interest in this proposed development, and I'm sorry we haven't filled you in sooner

Thanks everyone & particularly SE. I've been doing some more digging & it seems that the 2 storeys are likely to be the thin end of the wedge. There are rumours of similar or more on the Design Museum building itself so if the Clove Building gets the go ahead it's likey there will be more to follow. Would you send me all the details you have SE as I have a couple of people who would want to help oppose this development.

The link to the application on the council website is

Be patient, it will load eventually. The reference for the project is 11-AP-4296 and I think the closing date for submissions is 7 Feb.

I sent a bunch of stuff to James Hatts, in the hope he would run it as a news story, but I didn't get a reply. I'll try again now.
