The planning application is to be decided at the planning committee on Tues 27 March at 160 Tooley St SE1 at 7pm. If you are concerned please attand to show the council the weight of feeling. These are the main objections:
1 a hotel 8 storeys high with 60 hotel rooms and ground floor and basement commercial space would be an overdevelopment of the site. It is just too high and too massive in this conservation area with tiny streets.
2 Residents' privacy is being sacrificed to give the hotel occupants more light. There would be little to stop hotel guests looking across the narrow Bear Gardens into many existing bedrooms and living rooms.
3 Bear Gardens cannot support the extra traffic, with congestion and noise and road safety concerns – groups of schoolchildren often attend the Globe Centre.
For further details on the scheme retain and restore 1 Bear Gardens and the facade of 1 Rose Alley, and the demolition of all other existing buildings and structures on the site please look at the following Southwark planning pages
