I have noticed a more visible police presence as well. Don't want to start comparing them to the cavalry yet, but just as a couple of kids conspicuously put their hoodies up after checking me out on a deserted Druid Street, two policemen came round the bend from St Thomas Street. Not sure if anything would have happened, but it felt good not having to worry about it.

It seems that there were 33 of these thefts on Tooley Street alone in 2012, up from 29 in 2011, which was in itself an increase from 2010 when there were 29; in fact, such events have increased year on year from 2005, when only 13 such incidents occurred.

Would you believe that no one has been apprehended since 2010, when one culprit was 'proceeded with' and in fact only four people have been 'proceeded with' since 2005.

Source for this is an FOI request made to the Met Police, viewable at http://www.whatdotheyknow.com/request/theft_numbers_for_tooley_street#incoming-348092
