Mermaid Court

I recently found out that my grandfather was born in Mermaid Court in 1890, does anyone know if there are any buildings that old still in Mermaid Court? (I am not near enough the area to even have a look)

The houses in Mermaid Court are gone - it took a hit in the war and they were damaged beyond repair. My family lived there and had to move out to Waterloo. What did you family do?

My grandfather was a Ostler bringing horses from the country to London. I understand his father was a stableman. My grandfathers brother became a well known jockey in France and stayed there. My mother only saw him once in the 1930s when he brought his kids to London but they were rather to posh to play with people from Southwark! in 1901 it seems my grandfather was at St Margarets Court - I guess that is off Borough High Street. My mother was brought up around Blackfriars but a bomb put paid to their accommodation in April 1941. Do you live in the area?

I don't doubt it! Especially living up to top of that rather tall building

BTW it was 14 Mermaid Court and they later lived in Dolben St
