I lived in a building with rats once off of Regent St. You could watch them ducking and diving down holes in the decorative border outside. Eventually, after a friend woke up in the middle of the night to the sound of one gnawing at his bedroom door (it was also our kitchen, long story) we called in the rat man. This very tall man with wild eyes in a scruffy brown jacket turned up, with a curiously distant air about him. We left him to wander the building for a couple of hours and, seemingly without putting down any traps or poison that we were aware of, he told us confidently before leaving 'You'll not see them again.' And true to his word, they seemed to simply vanish. Very satisfying, but also a touch spooky.
