Just been reading all the recent posts on this thread, and it would take too long to respond to all the bits I would like to, but wanted to say how reassuring I find it that a lot of people have responded in a socially responsible and caring way.

Also how shocked (but not surprised) I am at how democracy seems to be being sidelined (I remember a lifelong member of the labour party in his 80's being thrown out of the Labour party conference in Brighton a few years ago!) as the developers march on with expensive developments facilitated by the council. It is like being back in the 60's, only this time it is tower blocks for the rich.

Boroughonian - don't lose your passion, it is really important to keep on caring!

YNB79 - didn't you say you were moving to France because you hated it here so much?

Don't worry Gibson I wont.

What impressed me about this thread is the amount of homeowners that have a care for the community and the less fortunate that live in it,I clearly had a few people wrong!!

Apologies to them.

Developers of the Heygate Estate in south London have been condemned by a local MP for replacing council housing with expensive flats being offered for sale in the Far East.

Etc, etc.

Latest issue of Private Eye ran a piece saying how a whole load of council officers involved in the Elephant regeneration are now working for developer Lend Lease:

I have been questioning the impartiality of the Planning Department for ages on here and its nice to see Private Eye querying this too now. When will someone please investigate SC's staff who cannot continue to ride roughshod over the local community's wishes forever simply in the name of progress.
