Well done Blueboy, I was going to post the same thing

Comments have been made here saying the traffic and noise argument is futile because there is already traffic and noise, and let's not forget pollution. But this is precisely the point. There is a certain acceptance level, and personally, I have reached mine. I am impacted by this every day and I do NOT want MORE of it. It is bad enough as it is. It does not matter whether it is a Tesco or any other big shop - anyone reliant on lorry deliveries is just going to make things worse.

Hello all.

In writing my objection, I did a bit of research into the availability of major chain supermarkets locally. For reference, it's .31 miles from The Circle to the new Bermondsey Tesco, or .34 miles from The Circle to the Tooley Street location. I wrote the following:

"Within a 1 mile radius of my post code, there are no fewer than:

- 13 Tesco locations
- 12 Sainsburys locations
- 7 Co-Operative locations
- 6 Marks & Spencer locations

Are we so fundamentally disorganised and lazy a society that we cannot organise our shopping amongst the vast array of 40+ chain stores, all within an easy walk from the neighbourhood?"

They might close it before it even opens.

I would love it to get scrapped but I think it may be unlikely due to the fact it isn't a superstore type development.

If we all continue to create merry hell for them maybe they will re-evaluate their plans and will go elsewhere.

According to this article "The projects were among 49 proposed new store developments across the UK shelved by the supermarket chain". So, indeed, if you continue to create merry hell, they actually might decide it's not worth the hassle and scrap it as well. According to the other article: "The beleaguered supermarket Tesco has said it will close 43 unprofitable stores across the UK - a significant proportion of which will be local convenience shops."

And of course if none of us shop there we can MAKE it an unprofitable one ready for the next round of closures :-)
