I was really sad to see that someone has completely broken in half one of the young silver birch trees in the walk-through/seating area by the side of St George The Martyr church in Borough. Such a pointless thing to do. I hope there is funding for a new one to be planted.
Sadly, this is not the first time this has happened over the last couple of years. The first trees planted in that area and on the Long Lane side of the church were vandalised, though the one near the church has recovered. Tulips, (planted at the base of the trees by guerilla gardeners) have been decapitated each year, as have some of the flowering plants in St Georges Gardens.
Thats such a shame but not unusual.
Such a waste, people are so stupid.
It would be slightly less scenic but more practical if young trees were planted with high iron fences close round them until they are big enough to be safe like they do abroad and used to do here to discourage this sort of thing. I guess its all money but so is replacing to poor broken trees.
