The original owners had planning permission to extend upwards by two more floors. They were never satisfied with this though and just kept chipping away, trying to get hold of Styles House land, so they didn't do anything with it.
The gazebo isn't a gazebo,sad to relate.It's a display of futuristic Japanese bicycle parking that is normally underground.
As I ran past in the deluge on Wednesday I could see a few people milling around so asked if I could take a look inside & take a moment's shelter.
The ground floor will be rented by Transport for London. Next floor up will be the Young Vic,top floor by artists for light studios.I was given graphic accounts of what the building was like when they moved in,and it wasn't pretty.A remarkable transformation,given monetary restraints and definite demolition in around 2 years.Good luck to them !
