Cigarette butts

I think there's a big problem about cigarette butts along Pocock Street, particularly near the corner with Blackfriars Road. It started getting worse around the time the building work started (I often see half a dozen builders sitting in a row and smoking), but the people who work at Friars House also seem to walk around the corner to Pocock Street to smoke.

It got so bad at one point that the grouting around all the paving stones were almost completely full of cigarette butts - it seems to have been cleaned up at one point but it's almost as bad again.

What can be done to try to fix this? There aren't any of those cigarette bins, how could one be requested? Is there anything else people could suggest? It looks really gross.

perhaps you could try asking the management at Pret (that stands on that corner) if they could install an ashtray: it would be in their interest too.
