Well, first day of two way traffic today and sadly I had to go via the Elephant. It took HALF AN HOUR to get from Borough High St onto the Elephant and Castle junction by car. Luckily it turned 7pm while I was queuing on Newington Causeway, so the bus lane became unrestricted and I could use that to skip about half the queue. Otherwise it'd have been 45 minutes plus. The main problem is that whilst the works are ongoing, they've got Newington Causeway down to 1 lane where it enters the junction, down from 2 lanes plus a bus lane. Entry to the junction is also now traffic light controlled, which is far, far less efficient than the previous give-way set up.
Hopefully once people get used to the layout it'll improve slightly, but given how horrendous the traffic was at 7pm on a Sunday evening, I dread to think what it will be like during the week when the roads are actually busy.
Going the other way, traffic was solid back to just past Kennington tube station in both the main lane and the bus lane. Utter madness.
