I want to recommend Leon and his company, Giant Floors (07540 306 075). Had Leon's team in just before Christmas and from start to finish it was exceptional. We had already bought 30 sqm of flooring for our hallway and lounge, together with architrave. Leon's team arrived on the Monday and they moved all furniture and items from the room before installing the new flooring and skirting board. The whole thing looks amazing. They even stained door thresholds to match the colour of the flooring exactly. The workmanship was second to none. Leon's prices weren't the cheapest, but having been stung in the past I wanted to ensure I got a specialist in rather than a jack of all trades. I'm so pleased that I did.

Leon's company also does parquet flooring, restoration and other specialised flooring work. His website ( showcases some of this, including restoring the parquet flooring in the hall at Riverside School.

I have no affiliation with Leon/Giant Floors other than in the guise of delighted customer. No commission arrangements exist!

Can you let us know his rates? Thanks

Hi Fusionsnow, what I can say is that I was charged 700 for removal of existing carpet and skirting boards and for all furniture to be moved and then to install membrane/underlay, new wooden flooring and skirtings. I had bought underlay but it was the wrong type so Leon supplied the underlay and also the door bars/thresholds as the ones I had bought weren't big enough! I was told it would be cheaper (and quicker) if we moved the furniture, but I was too lazy! Work took two and a half days in total with two men, so works out roughly 140 per man per day. Hope that helps.

To add some contrast, I had a similar quote in the order of 500 and was tempted, but I have been stung before and so decided to go on quality/perception thereof rather than price. So glad I did.

Are they only London based I wonder, I'd love to treat my daughter who due to circumstances way beyond her control has a threadbare carpet which is so bad I could polish it!

That I'm not sure of Jan. Ours was similarly threadbare and ruined - prematurely too - thanks to a Labrador puppy! Had I known of your polishing skills I would've had you round to sort it out :-)

Gavin I know what you mean about enthusiastic puppies! We got stuck in traffic on the motorway and a predicted journey of two hours turned into four and half..Angel the wrongly named English springer had tried not to poo in the kitchen and as we came through garden way was trying not to heave, she then tried to get into living room chewed the bar that held carpet down and was frantically pawing trying to hide it.

My polishing skills would never have helped there! Lol

The names we give them! Shame about the polishing skills :-)
