The impact of closing Newcomen Street to traffic

I don't tend to cycle on Newcomen Street, but as people have pointed out, it's miserable for pedestrians. The pavement at the junction with Borough High Street is so narrow that you struggle to get a buggy on it, and having rat-running van drivers using it as a short cut means it's far too close for comfort. Through traffic should be routed to Long Lane or Tooley Street - presumably once the development to London Bridge station is finished the congestion will ease up.
