That's truly awful. What a sad day for Bermondsey and its people. Such a lovely lady. RIP, Sister.

I've just called the centre and Sister passed away on Saturday after a three-week battle with cancer, remaining in the centre daily until she died. Arrangements for the funeral will be announced shortly.

I'll always remember the chain-smoking and straight-talking Sister Cecily who was willing to help anybody but was more streetwise than any of us! She helped me a lot personally when I was a kid and did the same for thousands of other kids. She commanded respect wherever she walked in Bermondsey and her memory will live on, as indeed will the sterling work she has done at the Bosco Centre for over 30 years. Really, really sad.
