Gunpowder by Spitalfields is good, I'm sure the food at OTB will be good too.... though they're going to have to sell a bucket load to cover the rent.

The exterior and decor always looks really gloomy and uninviting

That's a real shame. The food in there is lovely and the staff really welcoming. And it's been pretty busy in there the few times we've been in.

But, the decor really doesn't help Ė it's all hard surfaces so the noise bounces around; and it's a really drab location in comparison to the Ivy two minutes' walk away.

Yes that is sad, although not unexpected. We had a meal there soon after it opened - the food was good but we found the atmosphere lacking for the price we paid. It didn't help that we were 30 seconds from Tower Bridge but the only view we had was of the flats opposite.

I expect they suffered from being the first place to open on the street between Potter's Fields and Sainsburys. As most of the units were boarded up you wouldn't expect many people to wander down there on the off chance of getting a meal.

Interesting mix of restaurants at 1TB, and interesting mix of success too. The Coal Shed and the Prosecco place were very quiet on a recent Sunday lunchtime, whereas The Ivy and the new thai restaurant were doing a good trade.

That is a real shame. A lovely restaurant serving fabulous food without all the 'show off' nonsense so many restaurants go in for, just excellent ingredients beautifully cooked and presented, served by a first rate team.

We had our third superb meal in Tom Simmons' restaurant last week. Seemed relatively busy, and they told us they have Christmas party season starting there very soon. So hopefully its demise is greatly exaggerated.
