LSE has digitized and uploaded "Charles Booth's London", which allows you to see poverty maps and search 450 original notebooks/documentation from police walk-abouts (1886-1903)."

You can search the poverty maps (Bermondsey held up better than I thought it would) and read the notes from a walk-around with the local constable ( far more enlightening).

I was all ready to take to my bed for a rare early night. I knew that I shouldn't have done it, I was lured into the website. It's now 12.30 am. I 'll be back on it again at breakfast time.
