St John bakery to open a shop at Brandon House? They've said they're opening two shops in central London and would appear to fit the description below

Quote:
This current application seeks focussed external changes at ground floor level to facilitate the occupation of part of the approved retail floorspace by a baked goods retailer. This retailer has a specific requirement to operate from a small unit, which will be created out of part of what would have been a larger retail unit (as shown on the existing (approved) plans. The baked goods retailer is a high-end operator with restaurants and bakeries in locations across London. To this end, the retailer is considered to be an extremely valuable addition to the Brandon House scheme and the emerging mix of retail uses forming this retail frontage on Borough High Street / Marshalsea Road. Whilst the use of the retail space is not a matter for this application on the basis that the retailer would operate within the approved retail use classes we note that the user would be a baked goods retailer, rather than a bakery, and as such there would be no baking on site.

This is a pleasant surprise.

They've applied for planning permission to allow a gym to open in one of the retail units facing Marshalsea Road.

That sounds good, James. By the way concern was expressed earlier in this thread about the plan for a new restaurant in Brandon House called Borealis. There were worries about night noise etc. While I have not personally observed what happens in the late evening I would be surprised if these problems were to emerge. Borealis is an ambitious undertaking incorporating both a spacious restaurant with a Scandinavian vibe - hence the name - and a cafe section. It has a quiet air and would not tend to attract a boisterous clientele. Food pretty good I reckon, having tried it a couple of times. It makes up a bit for the sad loss of Edwins above the Trinity pub.

Would this be in place of the Borealis restaurant? It looks like not enough people agreed with my opinion of it shown above. It didn't last long!

Let's hope this Sicilian grocery goes ahead. It sounds good.

An overpriced Sicilian deli? I can't see it working especially what with Borough Market and the Italian Market place further up. Who is their target market? Lunch hour professionals or the glut of students that live in the area?

Surprised they think Borough High Street is the appropriate location - I'd expect them to go for Tottenham Court Road!
